Keith Park
25 02 2008Samizdata brings my attention to a campaign to place a statue of Kiwi Air Chief Marshall Sir Keith Park in Trafalgar Square. Park was the great airman who was instrumental in the success of the RAF in the battle of Britain, but whose career suffered from his falling out with Trafford Leigh Mallory.
It won’t happen of course, since statues of war heroes of Park’s stature are on longer in vogue. Nevertheless, there are those of use who will remember the work of Keith Park and the men he commanded, many of whom gave their futures so that we can live free.

Hear hear.
I dare say we’ll get half a goat embedded in a lump of perspex, or something similarly avent garde and crap.
Disinter him, snap his arms off, stuff a pillow up his shroud and hang a sign round his neck reading “Alison Lapper”. He’ll be up there in no time at all.
Superb plan, TT.
I always get a kick from looking at the military statues around Whitehall, particularly my hero Bill Slim - appropriately the only one shown “in action”.

At the moment.
Hi Jeremy - welcome!
I do so hope you’re right.
The dickheads would probably put up one of Livingscum before Park - one of my chidhood heroes. Trafalgar Square should only be for heroes in times of war who have rendered especial service to the nation. No newt-fanciers, or pols.
